Congratulations, Elise Buik – Winner of the 2012 Tom McGuiness Community Leadership Award!
UWGLA President and CEO Elise Buik was recently honored by Housing Works, a trusted United Way partner striving to provide equal and fair access to housing and human services for low-income individuals.
Named after the organization’s founding board member, Tom McGuiness, the Community Leadership Award is reserved exclusively for those who have demonstrated an “exemplary dedication to creating a healthy community which includes desirable and affordable housing options for all.”
According to Housing Works Executive Director Mary Kirchen, Buik’s relationship-centered approach to improving the quality of life in L.A. County parallels Tom’s belief that, “only by sharing ideas, pooling talent and leveraging resources can a community solve its intractable problems in an era of limited resources.”
“Elise is the catalyst, much as Tom was, in bringing together nonprofits, private business and local government to promote the best possible experience of community for everyone – especially the most vulnerable,” she added. “Through her efforts, United Way is able to recognize people with the greatest needs and to meet them with sustainable change.”
