Nearly two years ago, United Way convened over 1,200 local and national leaders for our Education Summit, a one-of-a-kind event designed to accelerate educational reform in L.A. County, which featured a keynote address by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

This time around, you can join Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, along with countless other civic, business, community and educational leaders as they gather for a robust discussion of proven strategies for improving our struggling schools and making a lasting difference for our students.

The sad reality is that:

  • Of the more than 1.5 million students in L.A. County, 435,000 don’t graduate.
  • At LAUSD, 70% of students are unable to read at grade level by age 13.
  • 3 out of 4 students can’t do grade level Math.

Cross-sector collaboration is the key to creating fundamental change and providing a high-quality education to our children. Please join us on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in the movement to ensure that all of our students graduate prepared for college and the workforce.
