Meet Tina, our new Home For Good intern!
What are you currently studying and what do you hope to do with your degree?
I am currently is my second year of a Masters of Social Work program. I hope to be a licensed social worker and start a non-profit organization for youth in Los Angeles. The program will provide teenagers with the tools they need to overcome mental health issues, childhood trauma and/or addiction, and start a new chapter in their lives.
What project will you be working on while interning with Home For Good?
In January, I will be helping recruit volunteers for LAHSA’s 2013 Homeless Count. However, while interning with Home For Good, my primary focus will be on creating a Companionship Program for formerly homeless individuals. The program will provide clients with a social support system to help them transition from the streets into permanent housing. Right now I am researching what that system would require and how to best tailor it to serve the needs of formerly homeless individuals.
Since beginning your internship, what is the most interesting thing you’ve learned about homelessness in Los Angeles?
I used to think that homelessness would always be a part of Los Angeles, but now I am learning about a system that can end it. I now believe that we can definitely end homelessness in LA!
What’s your favorite animal?
I love all baby animals, especially tiger cubs.
