We Connect Los Angeles 2010

The We Connect Campaign, an effort led by Maria Shriver to connect low-income individuals and families in California to supportive services and information, will be holding a 3-day event from March 26th - March 28th expected to serve over 10,000 people from the Los Angeles area. Help Chile Recover

You can help those affected by the catastrophic earthquake that hit Chile February 27th by donating to the United Way Worldwide Disaster Fund. Gifts designated for Chile will support recovery and long-term rebuilding needs of devastated Chilean communities. Contributions can also be made to the general long-term recovery fund, or to support the ongoing recovery work in Haiti. You can also text “Chile” to “United” (864833) to donate $10.

United Way to Fund Affordable
Housing Developers

Thanks to a generous $250,000 grant from Wells Fargo to help curtail the adverse impact of the economic crisis on affordable housing developers, United Way will distribute funds to support the development of affordable housing in Los Angeles County. United Way is inviting interested and qualified non-profit organizations to submit a proposal to support the organization’s development that will help low-income and homeless individuals and families. Civic Leaders Pledge to Work Together
to Fight Poverty

Nearly 300 civic and business leaders came together at United Way’s Tale of Two Cities event to discuss ways of working together to impact the key indicators for a better quality of life: jobs, education, health and housing. The event was based on United Way’s newly released quantitative report, Tale of Two Cities, L.A. County 10 Years Later, which measures the county’s progress over the last decade in those four key areas. Download a copy of the report.

United Way Postpones RFP to January 2011

As a result of the recession, a number of nonprofits are trying to meet increased demands for help with decreased revenues. In light of this, United Way has decided to extend its funding to its current partners for an extra year, beginning the summer of 2010. The next Request For Proposals will not be released until January of 2011, with decisions made by summer 2011. Learn more…
