Our research tells us that in order to address the challenges of our community, we need to address the inequalities in opportunity. We have deepened our commitment to increasing educational and economic opportunities so that everyone has access to the pathways they need to become productive members of society. We know that once basic needs are met, people can focus on getting a good education and improving their skills so they can secure better-paying jobs and move out of poverty once for all.
By creating pathways out of poverty we can:
Meet Basic Needs
Ensure the most vulnerable have access to food, shelter and healthcare. Last year, 222,311 adults and children received medical care through community health clinics.
Improve Educational Achievement
Invest in education so more young people will stay in school and more youth will graduate prepared for college. Last year, 90 percent of youth enrolled in United Way’s Tomorrow’s Leaders program developed computer literacy skills.
Increase Financial Stability
Ensure people have the skills to succeed in the workforce and the support they need to save for the future. Last year, over 90,000 adults learned new work skills or received help finding a job.
