We’re proud to announce that $46 million in tax returns will go back into the pockets of low-income families across L.A. County this year. More than 42,000 families participated in Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), a free program that is supported by United Way.
“There are so many struggling families who don’t realize they qualify for tax credits,” says Evelyn Garcia, United Way’s Financial Stability program officer. “That extra income can sometimes make all the difference.”
VITA ensures that the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit are distributed to qualified families. In addition to boosting family income, VITA sites often serve as gateways to the tools and knowledge necessary for working families to achieve economic stability.
