Rents are rising throughout California, while various people are experiencing layoffs or loss of income. Many people are unable to afford rent and paying for other basic necessities. The need for affordable places to live is growing, while the resources to build them are being eliminated.
California desperately needs a permanent, ongoing source of funding dedicated to affordable housing development! The Housing Opportunity and Market Stabilization (HOMeS) Act – SB 1220 – will provide a dedicated source of funding that will support the development of affordable homes, including emergency shelters, transitional and permanent rental housing, foreclosure mitigation, and homeownership opportunities.
We have a collective responsibility to ensure that all individuals, including our chronically homeless and homeless veterans, are able to access safe and stable housing options that fit within their budgets. In order for this critical Act to pass in the Senate this month, you must tell legislators that affordable homes for our families and neighbors are a top priority.
Housing California is spearheading a campaign in favor of the HOMeS Act. For more information visit their website at www.housingca.org and send a letter to Senate Transportation and Housing Committee members by April 13th urging them to support the bill.
