Providing Affordable Housing and Healthcare

Meeting Basic Needs for Kids

Los Angeles County is the homeless capital of the nation

Among the homeless are families (who are the fastest growing homeless population), and the chronically homeless (who are the most costly). With your support, United Way is helping people quickly find housing by providing them with permanent housing with support services (e.g. health care). This approach is proven to be less costly than life on the street or in shelters, where people cycle in and out of jail and emergency rooms.

In 2008, Los Angeles County had more uninsured people than any other county in the nation.

Almost 13% were children under the age of 18. United Way volunteers and board members helped pass a state bill that will provide coverage for approximately 254,000 uninsured children in L.A. this year.
