Pathway to Meeting Basic Needs

Today in Greater Los Angeles, 1.6 million people live below the poverty line. Most are working – sometimes more than one job - but because wages are so low and the cost of living so high, they still can’t earn enough to make ends meet. And their situations are so vulnerable, it only takes one circumstance, like an illness or a job loss, to force them from their homes and onto the streets.

Poverty is all consuming. You can’t learn if you’re hungry and it’s hard to get a job when you’ve no place to sleep.

United Way supports people on this point of the path by meeting their basic needs so they can focus on getting a good education and improving their skills so they can secure better-paying jobs, become financially stable and move out of poverty once and for all.

What is United Way doing to solve these problems?
