The 2007 California County Data Book has been published by Children Now.
This data book, released by Children Now, covers multiple aspects of children’s well-being across all of California's 58 counties.  Some of the data include: demographics of families (households with children, language spoken at home, citizenship status), health (health status by ethnicity and age, health coverage) and education (enrollment in preschool, student achievement, exit exam pass rate by race/ethnicity, language fluency) and more.

 Selected Findings:

  • More than a quarter of the children in California live in LA County.
  • 40 percent of LA County 10th grade students meet UC/CSU entrance requirements. 
  • 93 percent of LA County children have some form of health insurance.
  • 91 percent of LA County White 10th grade students passed the California High School English Exam, compared to 66 percent of Latinos, 88 percent of Asians, and 64 percent of African-Americans.
  • Fair market rent in LA County is $1,269 compared to the state-wide rate of $905.
  • LA County Children who are in households three times the poverty level attend preschool or nursery school at twice the rate as children from households below the poverty level.
