Increasing Financial Stability for Families

1.6 million people in Greater Los Angeles live in poverty - 600,000 of them are children.

With the high cost of living coupled with limited income growth, more and more families are falling into poverty. Half of families in the county make less than $53,431, about $10,000 below what a family of two working parents with two children need to pay for basic costs of housing, food, transportation, health care, and child care.

With rising high school drop out rates (50% in many communities), many young people are also getting stuck in low-wage jobs that do not provide for their families’ future. Nine out of ten jobs with the most openings pay less than $25,000 a year, well under half of what a family of four needs just to get by.
