Helping house our homeless vets

Helping house our homeless vets

This week Home For Good released its third quarterly report tracking our community’s progress toward ending chronic and veteran homelessness by 2016. In honor of Veteran’s Day, we would like to highlight two valuable updates related to the goal of ending veteran homelessness:

  1. Community Solutions and the Business Leaders Task Force partnered with cross-sector leaders to convene the Housing Placement Boot Camp, designed to speed up the process of housing homeless veterans in the HUD-VASH program. At the September 90-day reconvening, partners reported a 68 day reduction in the time it takes to get a homeless veteran off of the streets and into housing.

  2. Since launching in February, Project 60 has housed 33 chronically homeless veterans in Supervisor Yaroslavsky’s district! This program targets community resources and partnerships to identify, house, and support these veterans.

Overall, this quarter we are happy to report that we are 66% to Home For Good’s year one goal for housing chronically homeless individuals, and 47% to the goal for housing homeless veterans.
