is a community advocate, inspirational speaker, and formerly homeless individual. Dorothy joined us at the CES Reflection & Recognition Event on May 16th to share her story.
Dorothy is a 56 year old woman who lived for many years along the 210 Freeway in Pasadena. After her parents divorced when she was 12, Dorothy started down a path that eventually led to 40 years of addiction, rotten teeth and poor health, and a life on the streets of LA. On the streets, Dorothy said she felt like she was being “unseen” by the people around her.
Eventually, Dorothy was seen by Home For Good partner Housing Works, who helped Dorothy find permanent supportive housing. With their support, Dorothy was able to kick her addiction, improve her health, gain employment and even get a new set of teeth.
Through permanent supportive housing Dorothy gained the confidence to be seen again and now advocates for the almost 40,000 invisible individuals still living on our streets.
