Honoring Our Nation's Heroes This Veterans' Day

In partnership with United Way of Greater L.A., Bank of America and several other organizations, the City of Los Angeles is hosting its First Annual Veterans' Appreciation Festival on Saturday, November 10 in San Pedro.

Presented by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and City Councilman Joe Buscaino, the event - which will be held in front of the new USS Iowa Battleship Museum at the Port of L.A. - is free and open to the general public.

“This first-ever Veterans' Festival is just one way that the City and its citizens can show our appreciation and gratitude to those who have selflessly served our country,” Villaraigosa said. “It’s important that our local veterans continue to receive the services and benefits that they deserve because of their military commitment, dedication and service.”

The Festival will feature free food, a children’s play zone, resource booths for veterans, a presentation of colors by the California State Military Reserve Color Guard as well as live music from “The Swing of Things,” “Rock for Vets” and “The Riptides.”

United Way is also scheduled to release a comprehensive report on veteran unemployment in L.A. County along with its upcoming plans to ensure the financial stability of our returning servicemen and women as a part of its mission to Create Pathways Out of Poverty for all Angelenos.
