Investing in Innovation For L.A. County's Students

As a part of our efforts to increase the County's graduation rate and ensure that all students are prepared for college and entry into the workforce, United Way is co-hosting an event entitled "Investing in Innovation For L.A.'s Students" on February 22 at Clinton Middle School in Los Angeles.

The event will highlight the Diplomas Now model, which was developed by Johns Hopkins University's Dr. Robert Balfanz. This offers peer mentoring, academic support and case management to at-risk students while assisting teachers in the development of their professional skills and curriculum.

Dr. Balfanz, along with other leading experts in the field of education, will explore the leveraging of federal and private investments to tackle the dropout crisis in LAUSD schools using this innovative approach.
