Kat Czujko teaches the engineering and robotics elective class at Hollenbeck Middle School in the Boyle Heights community of East Los Angeles.
She is the advisor for FIRST Robotics (Tag: @FIRST For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an intense competition where students demonstrate not just engineering skills but also business, design and presentation skills.
Kat helps her students collaborate with professionals and high school students in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields to create competition robots. She was named a Los Angeles Unified School District Teacher of The Year for the 20132014 school year, and is Nationally Board Certified in early adolescent science.
Director of STEM at the (tag@iamangelfoundation) i.am.angel Foundation, had this to say about Kat:
“She encourages students to think critically and find solutions to problems through hands- on experimentation and projectbased learning. Students on the robotics team have come up with their own original designs and programming for the robot without much technical instruction from Katherine, because she has been able to put them into the mindset of being problem- solvers and creators! In a neighborhood like Boyle Heights where students and schools struggle with socioeconomic hurdles, Katherine's exceptional cando attitude coupled with her open, motivational teaching style has drawn the best from her students.”
@UWGLA is proud to honor Kat Czujko as a 2015 Inspirational Teacher. Tag your inspirational teacher and tell us why they inspire you. #TeachersWhoInspire
