LAHSA’s 2011-2012 Winter Shelter Program starts today. LAHSA will be partnering with local nonprofit homeless service agencies to administer the program which will run until March 14, 2012. The Winter Shelter Program will operate 1,498 emergency shelter beds at 16 locations throughout the County of Los Angeles. In addition to providing temporary shelter, the winter program will provide meals and access to supportive services and housing assistance.
Admittance to the shelters is on a first-come, first-serve basis for single individuals. Families in need of assistance will be connected to 2-1-1 and linked to service providers specializing in supportive services and housing assistance for families experiencing homelessness. Free transportation is available for individuals needing emergency shelter. There are 46 pick-up points throughout the City and County.
