Lakers Star Kobe Bryant Named Honorary Chair of HomeWalk 2012

United Way of Greater Los Angeles has officially announced that for the second straight year, Lakers basketball star Kobe Bryant will serve as Honorary Chair of HomeWalk – its annual 5K Run/Walk to end homelessness in L.A. County.

Check out the 2012 HomeWalk Public Service Announcement from Kobe Bryant:

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 17 at Exposition Park, HomeWalk has successfully raised both funds and awareness of this critical issue by mobilizing 28,000 walkers, raising $2.2 million and moving 12,000 homeless individuals into permanent housing since its establishment in 2007.

Proceeds from this year’s event will go twice as far thanks to a generous grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation which will match - dollar for dollar - all contributions of $100 or more to HomeWalk 2012.

As evidenced by the creation of his Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation, Bryant is deeply concerned about the plight of homeless youths and families in Los Angeles and urges others to take immediate action towards finding a solution.

“Last year’s HomeWalk was an incredible event and I’m asking my fans and fellow Angelenos to come out again this year and support the cause,” he said. “Walkers can either join me on Team Kobe Bryant or start their own team with family and friends at”

The cost of registration is $25 for walkers, $30 for runners and free for kids under the age of 18. Join Kobe Bryant and United Way of Greater L.A. in the movement to end homelessness by registering, donating or fundraising today!
