Vice President, Development
Mario joins UWGLA from Grainger, North America’s leading broad line supplier of maintenance, repair and operation products. Leading a team of Corporate Sales Managers, Mario was responsible for a $350 million portfolio of corporate agreements with companies including FedEx, United Airlines, BNSF, Waste Management, and CBRE.
Prior to his time at Grainger, Mario served as the Executive Director of Economic Development for the City of Los Angeles under Mayor James K. Hahn. He oversaw external communications and marketing for the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development where he worked with corporations, elected officials, and federal and state agencies to advance the Mayor’s business development initiatives.
In Washington D.C., Mario was a Presidential Management Fellow in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and served on the staff of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee in the Subcommittee for Health, Labor and Education.
As a first generation Mexican and Nicaraguan American, Mario was the first in his family to graduate from college with a degree in Political Science from UC Santa Barbara. As a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, he later earned his Masters in Urban Policy and Management at the New School for Social Research in New York City. He is also a graduate of USC’s Ross Program for Commercial and Real Estate Development.
His philanthropic pursuits have included a seat on the Governing Board of LA’s BEST, the country’s largest municipal run after-school program. He was also the founding Chairman of LA’s BEST Friends.
Mario and his family are residents of Glendale, California. Mario enjoys running, cooking, wine-tasting, and playing golf.
