Meet UWGLA Loaned Executive Robert Yue

PwC’s Robert Yue recently participated in UWGLA’s Loaned Executive Program, doing his part to advance the organization’s core mission of Creating Pathways Out of Poverty for all Angelenos. Below, he discusses what this unique experience means to him and the community as a whole.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself and why you decided to participate in United Way’s Loaned Executive program.

I grew up in Hacienda Heights and earned both a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s in Business Taxation from USC. I’ve been working at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a tax associate for a little over a year now. I volunteered for the LE program knowing that UWGLA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bettering Los Angeles.

In your opinion, what does our mission to Create Pathways Out of Poverty mean for the residents of this community?

The CPOP plan lends a helping hand to those who are struggling and it does so in a very strategic way. It’s an approach that leads to significant progress and real results.

Describe a typical workday at United Way.

A typical day usually involves visiting a partner corporation and sharing UWGLA’s message with potential supporters in the workplace.

What was your most memorable or rewarding experience as a Loaned Executive?

My favorite part of the program is getting to know employees from other companies, but my single most memorable experience while on the “campaign trail” was having lunch with the CEO, CFO and Board of Directors of a local engineering firm! It was an extremely rare opportunity which taught me so much.

What would you say to someone who’s interested in becoming a Loaned Executive?

If you enjoy interacting with a lot of different people, then you should definitely do it!

United Way is working hard to improve the overall quality of life in L.A. County with the help of its community heroes. If you were a real superhero, what would your superpower be?

The ability to show others what it’s like to live just one day in the life of someone less fortunate.
