PATH Presents: There’s No Place Like Home, Friday, June 22nd

There's a tornado warning in Los Angeles! On Friday, June 22nd, a perfect storm of homelessness is scheduled to sweep through the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, sending one woman on a journey to find her way home.

There's No Place Like Home is an original musical produced by PATH, a local nonprofit working to end homelessness inSouthern California. The funds raised by the event will help people experiencing homelessness move off the streets and into permanent homes.

Since 1986, Westwood Presbyterian Church (WPC) has produced an annual Summer Benefit Musicale to support programs run by PATH and other nonprofit organizations. This year John-Kevin Hilbert, WPC's Director of Music and one of the creative forces behind the yearly Musicale, decided to do something a little different. He and his writing partner, Jane Kinsey, have teamed up directly with PATH to create a brand new musical highlighting homelessness in our community.

The resulting, never-before-seen production is a modern retelling of The Wizard of Oz set on the streets of Los Angeles, 2012. This new take on the classic tale finds Dorothy living on the city’s streets as she embarks on a journey to find a place she can call home. The show features both familiar and original music, combining the modern struggles of homelessness with the whimsical narrative of The Wizard of Oz and providing inspiration for everyone to “be a Wizard” for people in need.

Hilbert is also directing the piece, which will feature Claire West Orr, PATH’s founder, as Auntie Em.

The production is being produced by Michael Wolper and Jim Goalen, with a goal to raise critical funds to support PATH’s efforts to provide homes for people experiencing homelessness inLos Angeles,Long BeachandSan Diego.

The performance will be held on Friday, June 22nd, at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre (743 S. Lucerne Blvd.,Los Angeles,CA90005). Ticket levels are available to suit all needs, with some options providing access to an exclusive pre-performance VIP reception and/or a post-performance dessert party with the cast.
