Producing and Supporting High-Quality Public School Teachers

Producing and Supporting High-Quality Public School Teachers

Echoing United Way’s call for the adoption of a meaningful teacher evaluation system by LAUSD and the teachers' union (UTLA), Educators for Excellence released a new report yesterday entitled, "Breaking the Stalemate: L.A. Teachers' Take on Teacher Evaluation."

The teacher-led organization's 24-page policy paper, which was funded by UWGLA in pursuit of its goal to increase the County graduation rate, suggests that all educators be judged according to their ability to:

  • Plan, deliver, reflect and set goals for instruction;

  • Help students grow academically; and

  • Strengthen their profession and school community.

Research and advocacy efforts such as these are part of a much larger movement spearheaded by United Way, its local partners and thousands of concerned parents, teachers and community members to provide L.A.'s students with the kind of public school education they deserve.
