The A-G requirements are 15 math, science and language courses required for admission to California public universities.
Currently, just 20 percent of freshmen enroll in these courses, partly because not enough classes are offered in qualifying subjects.
In 2005, United Way was a part of a grassroots movement of community groups, parents and educators which convinced the LAUSD Board of Education to make these classes available to all 727,000 students beginning 2008.
