On June 2, United Way hosted its 2012 Tocqueville Society Gala at the Bel Air estate of Vintage Capital Group founder Fred Sands and his wife, Dr. Carla Sands, for nearly 150 guests.
Many of L.A.’s most well-known business, philanthropic and community leaders were in attendance including Marion Anderson of the Marion & John E. Anderson Foundation, former U.S. Ambassador Frank Baxter, PwC’s Martha Corbett and Brian Cullinan, John Cushman, III of Cushman & Wakefield, East West Bank’s Dominic Ng and Julia Gouw, UPS’ Noel Massie, Michael Tennenbaum of Tennenbaum Capital Partners and ExxonMobil’s Steven Yatauro.
Guests were treated to speeches by Merrill Lynch’s Chandler Root, Fred and Carla Sands, United Way President and CEO Elise Buik and Bruce Willison of the UCLA Anderson School of Management along with inspiring performances by the New Directions Veterans’ Choir and a student guitarist from the Ramon Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts.
The evening’s program also featured a special video tribute honoring Caroline Nahas, Chair of United Way's Corporate Board of Directors and winner of the Distinguished Service Award, not to mention the presentation of the 2012 Corporate Award to longtime UWGLA partner, PwC.
