Help us move 450 of the most vulnerable and chronically homeless men and women in Downtown Los Angeles into housing!  Downtown Pathway Home is a group of service organizations and missions that have come together to address the enormous homeless issue facing the Downtown Skid Row area. Its primary purpose is to coordinate services and the support of key community stakeholders who will ultimately guide our   most vulnerable homeless guests into supportive housing or affordable rental housing linked to social services. Downtown Pathway Home has joined the 100,000 Homes Campaign which is a national movement to find homes for 100,000 vulnerable homeless people by July 2013.

Downtown Los Angeleshas one of the highest concentrations of people experiencing homelessness in the country. On any given night 3,000-4,000 people are bedding down in a 50-square block area that makes up Skid Row. This is why it is so crucial that we address this need in the community.

Prior to attempting to house people we need to identify who the most vulnerable individuals experiencing homelessness are.  These are people who regularly access courtyards and day-rooms of several Downtown missions and service centers. We then will add those names to the Skid Row registry which will include people who are homeless and sleeping on the streets. For this reason Downtown Pathway Home is hosting a Registry Week September 12-16.

Downtown Pathway Home is calling for volunteers to help with this effort. We need 100 volunteers to commit to 3 evenings to survey those individuals experiencing homelessness. The commitment is Monday, September 12 from 6pm-9pm, Tuesday September 13 from 6pm-9pm and Wednesday, September 14 from 7pm-10:30pm.

This is a great opportunity to learn about homelessness, get involved, and help make a difference! To register for the event or to make a donation for this initiative go to www.downtownpathwayhome.com.
