Working Together to Create Pathways Out of Poverty

Community-based organizations from across the County recently convened at UWGLA headquarters to address the inevitable challenges associated with ensuring the financial stability of hardworking local families.

In support of United Way's mission to Create Pathways Out of Poverty for all Angelenos through workforce development and asset-building techniques, representatives from AbilityFirst, Chrysalis, the L.A. Urban League, the South Bay Center for Counseling and several other trusted partners openly shared solutions to common issues such as:

  • The lack of job placement opportunities in the current economy;

  • Engaging potential employers in workforce development efforts;

  • Boosting the client's job performance and retention skills;

  • Developing effective client recruitment and outreach programs;

  • Collaborating with financial insitutions on asset-building initiatives;

  • Solidifying the client's commitment to managing their budget;

  • Recruiting and certifying Volunteer Income Tax Assistants; and

  • Connecting clients to other valuable programs and services in the community.
