Without a quality education, it’s virtually impossible for a child to break the cycle of poverty. That’s why United Way of Greater Los Angeles’ focus on Education is crucial for creating pathways out of poverty in Los Angeles County.
And, when we see a program that can make a drastic impact on Education, we shout from the rooftops. So consider this our building-top yell!
Our longtime partner, Farmers Insurance, has a program called Thank A Teacher Program. Like United Way of Greater Los Angeles, Farmers Insurance believes in the power of education and they want to help fund your favorite teacher’s classroom dream.
Farmers’ Thank America’s Teacher program is currently accepting applications for five $100,000 grants for educational programs that better prepare students for the future.
Past winners have used grant funds to enact their dreams of:
Building an indoor equestrian learning facility for special needs children and adults
Creating a teen driver training course to ensure young adults hit the streets safely
Creating a technology program to give at-risk kids access and training on iPads
But be sure to actually thank a teacher first because only teachers who have been thanked through the Thank America’s Teachers program qualify for the $100,000 grant. And, surely, even if you don’t know a teacher who needs a $100,000 grant, you most certainly know a teacher that deserves some thanks!
Creating pathways out of poverty isn’t impossible without all kids having access to education that prepares them for college and careers. Teachers are on the frontlines of making that possible!
And like any good request, we won’t just talk the talk -- we’re going to walk the walk. United Way staffers wrote Thank You notes to the teachers who made an impact on their own lives. See them below.
