Electricity is a basic necessity for every human being. Due to unexpected expenses, some families can face losing this necessity due to lack of funds. United Way of Greater Los Angeles has partnered with Southern California Edison (SCE) to create a fund called the Energy Assistance Fund (EAF) that supports families in need of a helping hand.

Since 1982, the EAF has been able to provide one-time utility bill assistance of up to $100 to nearly 300,000 qualified Southern California households. 14,000 SCE customers received help last year alone.

“Approximately 1/3 of all Southern California Residents are considered to be living in poverty today. Through Southern California Edison’s partnership with United Way of Greater Los Angles we’re able to help some of those folks.” states Ashley Sauer, manager of Customer Services at SCE. “100% of every cent of every donation that we receive through the United Way from those customers and employees goes directly to those in need. Even if you make just a very small donation you don’t know what a positive impact you’re having on this person’s life.”
