When Los Angeles residents experience devastation, neighbors countywide are quick to answer the call to action. The recent wildfires in L.A. County are no exception.

On Tuesday, December 18, Goldenvoice along with Producer Noah Chernin and Recording Artist Father John Misty brought together an incredible lineup including special surprise guest Beck, HAIM, Rivers Cuomo from Weezer, Nate Ruess from Fun. and many others for a sold-out benefit concert at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles — all to support those affected by the Hill and Woolsey Fires through United Way of Greater Los Angeles’ Disaster Relief Fund.

The evening was jam packed with an eclectic mix of the artists’ best-known songs, never-before-heard covers, two holiday classics, and one song created just for the concert — all of which electrified the audience for over three hours.

Highlights included: Multiple band collaborations on stage, a crowd karaoke moment during Weezer’s “Africa” performance, Este Haim expressing her genuine awe and amazement of having just played with Beck, Ruess’ first-time-ever performance of the Neil Diamond classic, “I am...I said,” Lucius’ haunting acapella version of Disney’s “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” and Mac DeMarco’s angelic yodels complete with his spontaneous on-stage somersault — AND. SO. MUCH. MORE!

Lucius’ Jess Wolfe commented on stage:

“I would like to acknowledge that we are all here doing something good for something very bad.

She later noted at the after-party that some of her favorite childhood landmarks no longer exist in her hometown.

Beck said, “I had neighbors who lost everything and it really hit home for me.”

Economic and emotional recovery from the devastation caused by a natural disasters requires longer-term support. This is especially true for individuals and families who likely don’t have the funds or financial resources and support needed to get back on their feet.

That’s why funds from last night’s concert are so important. With them, United Way of Greater Los Angeles will be able to fund local nonprofits that provide hands-on support in the community, keeping our most vulnerable neighbors out of financial distress and even preventing them from falling into homelessness.

United Way of Greater Los Angeles thanks Goldenvoice, Noah Chernin and Father John Misty for their leadership as well as concert partners, Thrive Market, Lyft and Steinway & Sons for both their donations to the Southern California Disaster Relief Fund and for working with artists to make the evening a success.

Additional thanks goes to all musicians, producers, stage crew, silent auction and merchandise sales attendants, and performers, including all concert headliners: Father John Misty, Fun.’s Nate Ruess, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, HAIM, Jeff Bhasker, Rostam, Jonathan Wilson, Tim Heidecker, Lucius, Weyes Blood, and Mac DeMarco.
