THE ECONOMIC MOBILITY CHALLENGE

One in five children in L.A. County lives in poverty, more than 300,000 families struggle to get by on less than $25,000 a year, and more than 3,500 veterans are unemployed.

HOW WE'RE CREATING ECONOMIC MOBILITY

Everyone benefits when people can find jobs and access services that allow them to provide for their families and save for the future. United Way partners and programs connect people to the resources they need to become economically stable. The initiatives include the following:

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program

Southern California Edison Energy Assistance Program (EAF)

SoCalGas Gas Assistance Program (GAF)

Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP)

9,783

TAX RETURNS

United Way-supported organizations filed more than 9,000 returns and secured nearly $11.5 million for low-income families through free tax assistance since 2016.

2,649

VETERANS

Since 2016, United Way helped place 2,649 veterans in living wage jobs, surpassing our goal of 2,600.

19,400+

HOUSEHOLDS

Since 2016, more than 19,400 households have received assistance with basic household necessities.
